The four year B. Tech Civil Engineering program covers both fundamental knowledge systems of engineering, beginning with Mathematics and Physics, and Engineering Mechanics and Materials and also the various complex uses and applications of such knowledge. Design is a critical aspect of most engineering practices and the compehensive first year course of Engineering Design and Innovation takes students into the collaborative engineering process from the very beginning, providing our students with immediate exposure to the core issues of engineering.
Second and third year of the B.Tech Civil Engineering program introduces students to further learning in a wide variety of areas such as Engineering Construction, Engineering Computations, Sustainable Transport And Highway Engineering, Applied Geo-techtonics, Structural Analysis and Design, Water Treatment and Water Resources Engineering. The third year Civil Engineering Practice course further seeks to integrate the learnings of the various sub-disciplines of civil engineering. Multi-disciplinary projects are undertaken and involve the identification of major issues and the development of solutions for open-ended problems including considerations of the environmental, economic and social impacts of the proposed solutions. The objective is to further develop students' research, teamwork, managerial and self-directed learning skills. In the final fourth year, students may choose to study electives in the areas of Engineering Construction and Management, Geo-Technical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transport Engineering, and/ or Water Engineering.
