Highlights & Achievements

Placements for the batch 2013-2016 have been something of a party for students of School Computer Applications with a total of 10 companies contributing around 100 offers for MCA, BCA and BSc IT students of Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun Campus. Our top recruiters represent leading firms such as Wipro Technologies, Concentrix, SmartData, Accenture, Aon Hewitt etc. The students have a general sense of euphoria on having a secure future even before their degree completion.

Acheivers of School of Computing, GEHU Dehradun


Rajat Kapri, a student of BSc IT pursued an internship from Instituto Compressivo "Umberto Fraccacreta" in Italy. Such internships are encouraged by the Department of Computer Applications of GEHU, Dehradun so as to enable students to build a global network and immerse themselves in various cross cultural activities.


Aman Joshi, a student of BSc IT became the Top 12 in Zee Cine Stars ki Khoj giving wing to his passion to acting and extra curriculars together with learning.


Akhilesh Sharma, initially the chief technical lead of the university website, always had an urge to do something for the society. It was with this intention that he developed a mobile safety application, URSafe, which has now been supported by the Uttarakhand state police.

  Gaurav Singh Rawat was working as the technical lead of the university website till he got placed with Microweb Systems in 2013.

TERI (The Energy & Resources Institute) and TERI University had organized a pan-India Inter-University Competition on Water Resources Management. This innovative and competitive project was designed to check students' level of awarness and personal comprehension about water bodies close to their places of residence/study. The competition would thus allow students all over India to develop a multi-stakeholder understanding of the need for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) through direct action and would make the TERI expertise and resources, opportunities for internships, research and networking and specialized mentoring by German experts available to all the participants.

A team from Graphic Era Hill University too participated in this competition. This team comprised of Abhinav Bahuguna of BSc IT, Lavanshi Anand and Shailja Chaurasia of BCom (Hons), and Pratyuesh Kala and Rajat Panwar of B.Tech (CSE and ECE respectively) and have successfully cleared the Stage 1 of the Competition among over 100 teams participating.

This team headed to TERI University, New Delhi to attend a consultative workshop and present their innovative ideas on the same on January 20, 2015. They also had an Open discussion on Water Resource Management with Ms. Fawzia Taranum and Ms. Shivakshi Jasrotia, the mentors assigned to the team to GEHU by TERI University.


Gaganpreet Dhawan (BCA) was introduced to the realm of modeling while participating in the Face of Graphic Era Hill University, Photocontest in 2015. Since then, there has been no stopping him with him becoming the one of the Top 6 contestants of Mr. Uttarakhand 2015 and being declared Mr. Personality and Mr. Bollywood.


He then went on to become Mr. North India 2016 in the Trend Setting Power Model Hunt and become the Brand Ambassador of Dress Code by the designer Sufi Sabri winning a cash prize of 50,000 INR


Adarsh Binjola of MCA created an android app for Graphic Era Hill University available on Google play store


Students of School of Computer Applications at GEHU; Ashish Rana, Aman Joshi, Abhinav Bahuguna, Diksha Chaurasia, Pankaj Nautiyal, Mudit Baunthyal, Gaurav Singh Rawat, Aashish Rawat, Ruchi Bisht, Monika Pundir, Gaganpreet Dhawan, Parmarth Matta; and other members of the theatre group secured the First Prize as well as the Best Script award for their play on "Consumer Rights" in 'Muktangan'- the inter college street play (Nukkad Natak) fest organized at Forest Research Institute, Dehradun. GEHU among the various other schools and colleges participating.


Bhupender Singh Chauhan of BCA has won Gold (Interstate Karate Championship 2015), Silver (5th Uttarakhand State Taekwondo Championship) and Bronze (India Open Taekwondo Cup 2015 in under 58 Kg Category.

Ashutosh Mittal of BCA won Silver (2nd Open National Club’s Taekwondo Championship) in 54 kg Category.


Prominent Events of School of Computing

The school of Computing at Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun strives to enhance the employability quotient of its young graduates and post graduates by organizing guest lectures and workshops at regular intervals throughout the academic year so as to enable students to interact with distinguished members of the academia and the industry. Some of the prominent guest Lectutres and Workshops organized by the School of Computing of GEHU, Dehradun is as given below:


A Guest Lecture by Ms. Malini Prasad- Regional Head, ICICI; on Online Investment was organized by the Department Of Computer Applications, GEHU for the MCA students in February 2016 to make students aware of the various computing aspects of Online Investment and Trading.


Soft skills is a term often associated with a person's "EQ" (Emotional Intelligence Quotient), the cluster of personality traits, social graces, communication, language, personal habits, interpersonal skills, managing people, leadership, etc. that characterize relationships with other people. A person's soft skill EQ is an important part of their individual contribution to the success of an organization, particularly those organizations dealing with customers face-to-face are generally more successful if they train their staff to use these skills. Screening or training for personal habits or traits such as dependability and conscientiousness can yield significant return on investment for an organization. For this reason, soft skills are increasingly sought out by employers in addition to standard qualifications. The School of Computing at GEHU, Dehradun, recognizing trhis need organized a a training session of MCA students with Mr. Vishal Joshi who works as Brand Consultant & Soft Skills Trainer


Big data is a term for data sets that are so large or complex that traditional data processing applications are inadequate. Challenges include analysis, capture, data curation, search, sharing, storage, transfer, visualization, querying and information privacy. Accuracy in big data may lead to more confident decision making, and better decisions can result in greater operational efficiency, cost reduction and reduced risk. Given the bulk of data being processed on a daily basis by organizations these days, knowledge of Big Data higher enhances the Employability Factor of any computing candidate.

School of Computing thus organized an interaction with Mr. Joshi, Vice President of Black Rock India Pvt. Ltd, Singapore who enlightened students about the various aspects of Big data processing.

  Online social media has gained astounding growth worldwide which has led to attracting attention from variety of researchers globally. Although with time all generations have come to embrace the changes social network has brought about, teenagers and young adults are the most fanatic users of these sites. According to various research studies in the field of online social networks, it has been revealed that these sites are impacting the lives of the youth greatly. When using these sites such as Twitter, Facebook or MySpace, there are both positive and negative effects on the youth.


To better enlighten students about the impact that social media can have towards positive growth, School of Computing organized a guest lecture by Mr. Edward Holden, Former Business Development Manager, GATE Trust Foundation, UK; who emphasized both positive and negative effects on the youth. The students were made aware about the statistics of social networking affecting youth and various aspects of life at large. During the session the students were also challenged to think about various ways in which social media could be used as well as misused and that it greatly depended on a person to decide the path they should choose.


A Workshop on Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking was organized on the occasion of Computer Security Day by the School of Computing, GEHU Dehradun in 2015 to provide the right knowledge to the aspiring Hacking and Cyber Security enthusiasts so as to enable them to think out of the box with the mentality to catch a thief.
