Innovations and Research

Nitish Agarwal & Pankaj Kholia, a Computer Science & Engineering students of GEHU have together developed an App "Dealzo"- a smart innovation for the common man to save money on ones favorite brands by viewing the nearest deals around one through the App

 

Lovesh Grover, a Computer Science & Engineering student of GEHU, at the young age of 18 published a paper titled “Weighted Code Approach to Generate Gray Code” which has been accepted for publication in IEEE Potential 2015 issue.

 

Abhilash Semwal, a Computer Science & Engineering student of GEHU has developed a prototype for “Mobile Bomb Locator Sensor” which has been declared to be the 7th best research project world-wide by Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2014 organized by IIT Kharagpur. He for his true spirit and vision of innovation has also been bestowed with the title of an Indian Young Scientist at IIT Kharagpur. In addition he was given a 5 Lakh cash prize by the Uttarakhand State Government  presented to him by the Honorable CM, Mr. Harish Rawat. Additionally he was also offered an internship with Steria Pvt Ltd for 10 lakh.

 

Akhilesh Sharma, initially the chief technical lead of the university website, always had an urge to do something for the society. It was with this intention that he developed a mobile safety application, URSafe, which has now been supported by the Uttarakhand state police.

 

Vaibhav Dhiman, a student of Electronics and Communication Engineering of GEHU has developed a prototype of “Sustainable Power Scheme" which contains the additional functionality of auto adjusting the speed of fan by temperature sensing.

International Internships

12 Students of GEHU namely, Lavanshi Anand, Rajat Sharma, Jasmine Kaur, Sourabh Joshi, Amandeep, Rahul Bhardwaj, Yash Gupta, Ivjyot Kaur, Inderdeep Singh, Inderpreet Singh and Rajat Kapri were offered a month long internship in Cairo, Egypt; Tomsk, Russia and Italy facilitated by AIESEC.

  

 

Esteemed Internship Opportunities Availed

 

Rakhi Prajapati (BSc Hons Physics), has been selected among the Top 50 students from all over India for Summer Training Experimental Programme at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education coordinated by Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai starting in May, 2016

 
 

Jyoti Negi (B.Tech- ECE) was accepted for the Science Academies Summer Research Fellowship Programme at IIT Mumbai.

 

Award Recipients

 

Puneet Gandhi, was awarded the Karamveer Puruskar and Global fellowship Award from the UN for his work dealing with basic sanitation issues affecting women in rural and low-income segments of India

 
 

Simol Naudiyal, was awarded the Uttarakhand Youth Icon National Award by the Former Chief Minister, Sri Harish Rawat for developing a technology for Disaster Management and Rescue Mapping of Kedarnath Valley using GIS and remote sensing.

 
 

Paper Presentations in International Conferences

 

Rohit Joshi, a Computer Science and Engineering post graduate scholar at GEHU, pursuing his thirst for knowledge, and inspired by his mentors to rise and reach out to his potential, wrote a research paper titled Microwave attenuation studies impacted by rain for communication links operating at Tropical regions: A survey. His innovative spirit got recognized on an international scale and his paper selected in the Third International Conference on Advanced Computing in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia on February 10, 2015 organized by the World Academy of Research in Science and Engineering (WARSE) with his paper being awarded the “Best Paper” in the conference.

 

Participation in Pan India Competitions

Eco kart is a National Event for students pursuing a Degree in Engineering to showcase their creative and engineering aspirations- the objective of the Competition being to design and to fabricate a single passenger Kart which is operated via a battery. Students of Mechanical Engineering of GEHU Dehradun participated in this event, under the guidance of their faculty advisor Mr. Ravindra Mamgain- the kart designed by the Team of Students of GEHU was fabricated in the Mechanical Engineering Workshops of GEHU consisting of a total of 4 batteries (12 v each), differential, sprocket, chain, hydraulic brake, steering in addition to some innovative design supplements like an anti collision sensor and a solar panel.

108 teams participated pan India with Team GEHU ECOKART securing the 7th Rank - the team was also awarded the Best Captain Award.

 

Students of Electronics and Communication Engineering from the academic year 2011-2014 of GEHU had participated in the Texas Instrument's Innovation Challenge 2015 aimed at promoting IC-based system design among student community. 2 teams of GEHU have qualified for the quarter final round of the same. The first team comprising of Akanksha Gulati, Apurva Garg and Naina Agarwal have made a project on "Smart Crop Monitoring based on soil nutrients". The second team, comprising of Ishan Sharma, Rajni Bhatt, Himani Joshi and Sumit Kukreti, have designed a project on "Loco Gatling Gunner Assembly". Both these teams worked under the direct supervision of Mr. Rahul Chauhan, a faculty in the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering.

Over 2 thousand teams from all across India participated in the competition and the team of students from GEHU were among the top 100 teams to have qualified in the quarter final round. Each team has received 15,000 INR as equipments from Texas Instrumentation for their corresponding projects. 
 
 

TERI (The Energy & Resources Institute) and TERI University had organized a pan-India Inter-University Competition on Water Resources Management. This innovative and competitive project was designed to check students' level of awarness and personal comprehension about water bodies close to their places of residence/study. The competition would thus allow students all over India to develop a multi-stakeholder understanding of the need for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) through direct action and would make the TERI expertise and resources, opportunities for internships, research and networking and specialized mentoring by German experts available to all the participants.

A team from Graphic Era Hill University too participated in this competition. This team comprising of Abhinav Bahuguna of BSc IT, Lavanshi Anand and Shailja Chaurasia of BCom (Hons), and Pratyuesh Kala and Rajat Panwar of B.Tech (CSE and ECE respectively) successfully cleared the Stage 1 of the Competition among over 50 teams participating. This team was the only team qualifying from Uttarakhand and was awarded the 1st position in the Northern Region. In the Final Round conducted in January 2016, they secured the 4th Position Pan India.

 
 

Papers Presented in National Conferences

A National Seminar was held at E.W.C. ONGC, Dehra Dun on November 5, 2016 with the theme- “Socio-Legal Dimensions of Environmental Law”. The dignitaries present at this event were:
  • Chief Guest: Shri Harish Rawat, Honorable Chief Minister Govt. of Uttarakhand.
  • Guest of Honor: Maj. Gen. (Prof.) Nilendra Kumar, former Judge Advocate General & Academician.
Out of the total of 48 teams participating and the 4 prizes up for grabs, Graphic Era Hill University won 2 Trophies in this event. The winners were:
  • Ms. Ayushi Mittal (faculty member school of law)- Topic of presentation: “Impact of Energy Laws on environment”
  • Ms. Amita Naudiyal and Ms. Nupur Dhaundiyal – I Sem Topic of presentation: “Environment and Forest Law: A Critical Analysis”
 
 
 
 
Extra-curricular Achievements of Students
 

Pradeep Rana, a student of B.Sc IT at Graphic Era Hill University (Dehradun Campus) has traveled on a bicycle journey with enthusiasm to touch the sky and has set a new world record after traveling 15,261 kms. Pradeep Rana broke the world record of the longest distance to cycle.

 
 

 

 
 

Aishwarya Goel, a student of BCom (Hons) final year at GEHU, is a girl of multiple talents who found her wings at the various extra-curriculars organized at Graphic era Hill University.

 
 

Her singing talent as well as her rampwalk skills have made her one of the top 20 finalist at the Femina Miss India 2015

 
 

Gaganpreet Dhawan (BCA) was introduced to the realm of modeling while participating in the Face of Graphic Era Hill University, Photocontest in 2015. Since then, there has been no stopping him with him becoming the one of the Top 6 contestants of Mr. Uttarakhand 2015 and being declared Mr. Personality and Mr. Bollywood.

 
 

He then went on to become Mr. North India 2016 in the Trend Setting Power Model Hunt and become the Brand Ambassador of Dress Code by the designer Sufi Sabri winning a cash prize of 50,000 INR

 
 

Aman Joshi, a student of BSc IT became the Top 12 in Zee Cine Stars ki Khoj giving wing to his passion to acting and extra curriculars together with learning

 
 

Abhishek Baunthiyal (B.Tech ME), became the winner of the Event “USP the Survivor 4” held in April 2016- an Inter College Competition where 7000 students participated consisting of many rounds such as Group Debate, Logo identification, Mock Press, Entrepreneurship Round, Athletics Round and the final Round- an Extreme Pressure Personal Interview with a panel of 40 judges. He additionally received a cash prize of Rs 50,000.

 
 

Sonam Pradhan, a Commerce graduate of GEHU, became the second runnerup in the Idea Rocks India Competition and shared the stage with Mika Singh in Bombay. She has sincethen pursued her singing passion together with academics and has gone on to release several albums.

 
 

Students of the Cricket Team of Graphic Era, consisting of students of Department of Civil Engineering namely, Navin Kumar Singh, Abdul Ahad, Mohit Fartiyal, Priyank Singh, Kaushal Rawat, Ashish Topal and Akshay Miyan, secured the 1st Position among the 26 teams competing Pan India in Run 2017.

 

Bhupender Singh Chauhan of BCA has won Gold (Interstate Karate Championship 2015), Silver (5th Uttarakhand State Taekwondo Championship) and Bronze (India Open Taekwondo Cup 2015 in under 58 Kg Category.

Ashutosh Mittal of BCA won Silver (2nd Open National Club’s Taekwondo Championship) in 54 kg Category.

Rakhi Thakur of B. Com Hons. won Silver (5th Uttarakhand State Taekwondo Championship) & Bronze (2nd Open National Club’s Taekwondo Championship) in 58-62 Kg Category.

Bhupender Singh Chauhan & Rakhi Thakur will now represent Uttarakhand in next National Games.

 

  

Motor enthusiast Anmol Chaudhary a student of MBA of Graphic Era Hill University, stood first in Royal Rajasthan Car rally held in January, 2016 in Jaipur. Graphic Era gave a push to the young achiever by sponsoring his car that made him win the prize. He won Ist prize in T1 extreme 1400-1850 cc category. T1 stands for fully modified car. The car he used was a Gypsy King with a 1.6 ltr petrol engine. Federation of Motor Sports Club of India (FMSCI) puts this rally in the extreme category due to the presence of sand dunes, river beds & offroading. This race was of 1200km around Jaipur with both Day & Night driving conditions. Only 50 % complete the rally as it is a big test for both man & machine. GEU helped prepare the vehicle & other things.

 

Additionally, students of Mechanical Engineering at GEHU won the inter-university quiz “Brainwave” and were awarded a cheque for 1 Lakh presented by our Hon’ Chancellor, Prof. Kamal Ghanshala. Also, students of Computer Science & Engineering at GEHU have been ranked among the top 1000 teams in Infosys Aspirations 2020 among the 25000+ teams participating.

 

 

81 students of GEHU have been certified by Microsoft via their Massively Empowered Classroom (MEC).
