The Department of Environmental Science at Graphic Era Hill University, established in 2011, has consistently worked towards fostering environmental awareness, sustainable practices, and high-impact research. The department plays a vital role in making the university campus greener and more eco-conscious through initiatives like plantation drives, green belt development, and environmental awareness campaigns. With a strong focus on academic excellence and societal impact, the department offers a Doctoral (Ph.D.) program, encouraging in-depth research in areas such as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Biodiversity Conservation, Water and Air Pollution, and Ecology.

The faculty members, with their wide-ranging specializations, are actively involved in guiding research projects and have successfully secured Research and Development (R&D) funding from various state government agencies. Their research work has been published in reputed scientific journals and presented at international forums, reflecting the department’s commitment to academic contribution at a global level. The department has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, Kosi, Katarmal, Almora, Uttarakhand, to strengthen collaborative research initiatives and field-based studies in the Himalayan region. For undergraduate students, the department aims to instill a deep understanding of environmental challenges and solutions by employing modern teaching methods, including interactive classroom sessions, field-based learning, and digital tools. The department also organizes expert lectures, workshops, and hands-on training programs around key environmental observances such as World Water Day, Earth Day, and World Environment Day.
